It’s all about the bucket bag!

Everywhere I look at the moment I see very stylish women carrying bucket bags… This is the way fashion permeates into our closets and out onto our streets: a runway show, a fashion magazine, Instagram, Pinterest, shops and online retailers. I predict that we all will be carrying one over the next few years!

Here I’m carrying a chocolate brown version from German luxury retailer Aigner to add a new twist to some old favorite items which I wear on repeat.

Above and below are some examples of recent ‘sightings’ 😉

And to show how versatile the bucket is for my lifestyle here are a few shots of me wearing mine on repeat ;0

October 1st – Falling for Fall

Tips for integrating new pieces into your existing wardrobe to create versatile fall styles…

It’s that October feeling we get once Vogue and the like have hit the newsagents shelves and our inboxes are bombarded with new irresistible Pieces in the new seasonal colors…or is it just me? 🤷‍♀️ I think not. Even those of us not that interested in fashion feel the temperatures drop and with it the pace of life and changes of habits involved. The days shorten and we are much more inclined towards cosy textures and warmer colors.

I would recommend however that our seasonal wardrobe shift should commence with a good inventory of what we already have. Older fashionistas like me will have gathered quite a collection of classic items over the years and many of these pieces will perform for many seasons with a tweak here and there and the addition of one or two new bits and pieces. I aim to show you how to achieve this feat without breaking the bank or adding greatly to the landfill sites of the world.

Those of you have followed me over on Instagram, Thank you🙏 , will have seen my closet evolve from grey shades towards brown over the last few years. It’s not that my love affair with grey has ended, more an acceptance of warmer shades. This does not mean that I will stop wearing grey. In fact I’ve discovered a love for grey shades and brown shades combined, as in the look above. The stole that I’m wearing is around 15 years old btw, which rather proves my point about combining pieces from different seasons and years to achieve a more authentic style.

My love of animal print has continued unabated and leopard or tiger print are both perfect additions to an otherwise neutral look. The patterns add interest and fit well with the classic camel, black and brown shades best suited to the fall Season. The addition of sneakers in a darker tone also serves to help the same basic pieces to transition into cooler weather.

With the addition of white and camel It is easy to create a lighter autumn/ winter look. I use this trick all the time. Swap out a white shirt for a black one, or try the look with a grey sweater, OR black jeans/white jeans/brown pants or skirts. This constant reshuffling of the same items gives the impression of a much larger wardrobe than you actually have 🤷‍♀️

Here I’m wearing a camel vest and blazer to Elevate white jeans for a chic look.

Above I’m wearing the same scarf with black jeans, a white shirt and the same black boots. All closet basics worn on repeat. The long cardigan is a signature piece for me too, also from previous season.

A light weight trench coat is perfect for transition style. This one in a striking cheetah print. Here I’ve doubled up on animal print with a touch of leopard on this black saddle bag.

Ring the changes by mixing in long boots with shorts or a skirt using the same principals and you start to have an infinitely flexible wardrobe.

To shop my closet download the App and follow me. I’m not clever enough to put the links in this new format blog yet I’m afraid 😱 I suggest all sorts of options that I like to create the same type of looks. Many are high street, some designer, and you should have a lot of basics of your own that can mix and match with any new pieces that you buy through my affiliate links.

That’s it for now folks, thanks for reading. Bye for now, Sarah xoxo

Black & White

On a blustery day, aka baaad hair day, in late January, doing a little shopping…aka market research ;0

Captured on camera with the evidence :O

Here I’ve swapped my animal of choice to Zebra to fit into my B&W theme. This coat is more of a jacket length on me, and reminds me of one of those 50s Teddy Boy jackets. From Mango, it’s now on sale, here rude not to buy it! I’m wearing with old faithful Zadig & Voltaire white jeans, similar here, and modern cowgal boots, similar here and I looove these ones here

Just stopped for a re fuel…thirsty work shopping 😉

The tee shirt is from IKKS, another Parisienne brand that I’ve bought the odd piece from in the past. This season I invested in two tees featuring Blondie. The band was one of my all time favs back in the 80s, a female lead singer anyone…YAY!!! The tee is sold out everywhere, sorry!

Passing the time…

Enjoying a spot of sunshine…

I’ve broken up the white expanse with a black belt, similar here or you could try one in Zebra print, I loooove this one, on sale too :O. My bag is the iconic Rocky bag from Zadig, sadly not on sale, but a classic, avaiable here

My dog tags were made for me by the lovely Emily, who trades on Etsy as dressed2theninesdesigns, link here

Coffee and some dangerous reading material :O..

Strolling along the shop fronts in Puerto Banus

Beautiful blue skies, lucky me!

Blowin in the wind….

This over long shirt is no longer available but the effect could easily be a chieved by part tucking a shirtdress over a tee, here or here

That’s it for now folks, and a big thank you to you for your patience while I’ve been unavoidably distracted. Good to be back! Bye for now, Sarah aka Badassbabyboomer xoxo

Black & White for Instant Style

For a quick and easy polished look B&W is a failsafe option for me…

Above I’m pretty casual in distressed denim and tee, but undoubtedly the look is elevated by the color palette.  My [very old] black tank, similar here and here and white wrap cardi, similar here  is a classic combo that I wear over and over with black or white jeans, similar here or if you like a more classic look try these here or here

Of course it is the chunky jewlery that takes the look into the next level, as you probably realize by now I’ve been collecting striking pieces for most of my life.  These items have actually reached the state of FREE items on my Cost per Wear scale ;O haha!  The leather cuff studded with silver metal and crystals is around 10 years old by DSquared2, I’ve done a bit of a search and found a few alternatives that would have a similar effect here one by the same brand, currently on sale :D, or I looove this one here  or how about this one for fierce fabulosity here The horn pendant was from a Spanish brand called Unode50, One of 50, and as I bought it 4 years or so ago, clearly it is not still available, but similar here and the skull pendant, exact here was likewise purchased several years.

For the next look the addition of a schoolboy style jacket renders the B&W pallete even more chic.  I’m wearing the same scarf which is a very old one from my fav Zadig, if I were to reappraise this look I’d defo add an McQueen scarf here or here or I also like this one from Kenzo here  The blazer is linen [current but sold out Zara] similar here and I like this one here

Here I’m looking angelic ;O in the same outfit…the jeans [black this time] are old favorites fro Zadig, the new rendition is here and these ones are on my lust list ;O here or for a less pricy option here

The boot obsession you will all be familar with, although soon the temperature here will be too hot to wear them!  These are the real deal here but if you really love the style there are many similar looking copies around, from Basalt is my favoritehere My box bag is a previous season Zadig, here is this season’s version.

I sometimes pin this ribbon brooch to add a vintage military feel, similar here  and my other jewelery has all featured on the blog in the past, mostly from the aforementioned jewelery brands.

…and just to show how valuable are my style tips here I’m sharing some of my secrets with one of the Ale-Hop brand’s exponents of B&W style!!!!

Thanks for dropping by my friends, bye for now, Sarah ;D x

Hangin’ Out

…I’m not sure what number these are in a long line of Converse…

Processed with MOLDIV

Some of the younger generation think that double denim is a fairly new concept…NOT 😉  I’ve rocked a very similar combo to this many times over, in the 70s, 80s and 90s.  I’m wearing a denim shirt which I scored on sale from Anine Bing, same here  (very limited supply tho 😦 ), similar here and budget versions here and here Jeans are distressed boyfriend style (old) similar here  here and here

Processed with MOLDIV

The tee is an old favorite from, you guessed it, Zadig et Voltaire, this season’s version here or you could try this one, which I also wear on repeat here or this cheaper version here

The Converse sneaks were special edition and are now unavailable but I love plain red ones and have worn this style for years here and I also love these ones here the scarf is Zadig here and here and the belt ditto here and similar here Bag here and love this mini version here similar with 25% discount here

Processed with MOLDIV

My sunnies are old, similar here and here and my leather gilet too, similar here here and here and a cheaper version here I’m sporting the usual hardware here  here here and my new fav commissioned piece here

So the moral of the story is that there is really nothing new under the sun!  Find your style and develop it to suit yourself and your lifestyle and you will collect lifetime pieces to wear over and over in different combinations 😉  That’s it for now folks, thanks for dropping by, Sarah x

There is something about Chelsea Boots that make my heart sing and when I spied this pair I have to say that my heart stopped and my eyes popped.  I just had to have these boots…perfect for everyday wear with jeans or leggings, or as here, styled with faux leather, similar here  Of course money is an object with me…that is I have not got unlimited funds (like you guys I guess) but on the other hand using my ‘Cost per Wear’ rationale I think that these will turn out to be a real investment ;D  exact here and in plain black here  The bag I’m carrying is a perfect example that justifies my philosophy, it is several years old, Diego style, by Alexander Wang.  It is still loved by me and admired by others, available here and here I also like this one in leopard print (no surprises there then ;)) here I plan to wear my boots also with my new mini bucket from Jerome Dreyfuss (mega cool Parisienne brand) here

When we visit Madrid we normally stay in the area Barrio de los Recoletos sandwiched between Calle de Serrano to the East, an area where all the major designer brands have their flagship stores, and the parallel street Calle de Claudio Coello, (my favorite) home to the younger hipper brands.  To the South lies Retiro Park and the museum triangle of the Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, and a little further to walk, the Museo  Reina Sofia, famed for its collection of modern art, particularly of Picasso, including the unmissable Guernica inspired by the atrocities of the Guerra Civil (the Spanish Civil War).  to the West lies the Artisanal Quarter of Barrio de Chueca.

After a visit to the Fundacion MAPFE (on Paseo de Recoletos) to view the Joan Miro permanent Collection we wandered around until we found a restaurant for a light lunch.  After a pleasant lunch at niMU Barquillo we wandered around exploring some of the smaller independent shops.

Loved this spacious shop and managed to make a few purchases (all on sale…Yay!) while Mr F was seated comfortably with a newspaper and some magazines…

I managed also to source a cap…not sure if its Naval Officer or Chauffeur…but its just what I was looking for 🙂 ….and I scored a fabulous cashmere and silk mix scarf in leopard and zebra print mix ;0….I loved this scarf 2 years ago but was not prepared to pay the price!  The Zadig & Voltaire outlet shop came up trumps…RESULT!!!!

Another shop that held a siren call for me was closed for lunch (some of the smaller retailers still hold to the old days of siesta time…but not many these days).

Luckily, next day, after  a visit to the Museo Thyssen to view the special exhibition of Toulouse Lautrec and Picasso paintings showing the huge influence that Lautrec had on Picasso’s earlier work (amazing…I had no idea)..

…we wandered back via B.ones shop (b.onesibiza on Instagram) and again Mr F was entertained royally while his wife tried on half of the shop ;)… I loved this independent and its choice of labels and practiced my Spanish with the owner all errors excusable by the mutual passion for fashion!  I bought a gray velvet hoodie and black button front pants…both on sale 😀

Another slight change of look…

Here I’m wearing white t-shirt similar here and striped sweater, similar here here and here white jeans, similar here and here and biker boots, similar here

I also managed a recce of Serrano and Claudio Cuello and managed to buy a pair of Ranger boots, on my list, from Twin Set which, although not new to me, I haven’t actually purchased from before.  The best part about shopping in this area for me is the amazing shop windows and merchandising.  Being an ex retailer I really appreciate display and some of the examples I saw were real art.
